Fluidit Heat – modeling software for
district energy systems

All Fluidit Heat features

Transform how you simulate and manage
District Energy networks.

Running year-long, hourly stepped simulations for entire District Energy networks has traditionally been a significant challenge for hydraulic modeling software. Instead, static simulations have typically been used, offering only momentary snapshots of how a network behaves at a specific time. As a result, understanding the current and future behavior of these complex systems has often relied on piecemeal “cut-and-paste” methods.

Fluidit Heat is purpose-built to run extensive, robust time-series simulations, which will turn complexity into actionable insights. It is powered by cutting-edge analytics, seamless integrations, and decades of hydromechanical expertise.

Design Heating, Cooling, and 5th-Generation Networks

District energy networks are complex, but modelling them doesn’t have to be. With Fluidit Heat, you can model both district heating and cooling networks. The components are the same; just remember to flip the signs of the power and cooling parameters. This approach allows heating and cooling consumers to be connected to the same network, which is particularly relevant for modern ultra-low temperature systems.

In addition to cooling networks, 4th- and 5th-generation district energy networks are becoming increasingly important. Fluidit Heat provides a wide range of components and advanced features, making it possible to create a digital twin of your system regardless of its complexity. Whether your network includes prosumers, thermal storage, heat pumps, or other modern energy sources or network components, software has the right tools to model them.

High-Performance Simulations

With a modern software architecture, Fluidit Heat delivers high-performance simulations regardless of network size or complexity. There are no feature or component limitations. You always have the latest version of Fluidit Heat, delivering streamlined, accurate simulation results.

Pioneering Pumping Stations

Complete network performance is the key to optimizing district heating. Therefore efficiency of pumping is an integral part of Fluidit Heat simulations.

Fluidit Heat can model in detail any configuration of pumping station equipment, not just single pumps. Clear visuals for each simulation’s results help you understand how the pumps performed and whether there is room for improvement. Control strategies on how to turn individual pumps on and off can be changed with a click, providing invaluable insights into pumping performance, electricity consumption, and overall operational expenses.

Validate Production Plans & Optimize Pumping Stations

Fluidit Heat helps ensure your production plans and control strategies are robust and effective through rigorous testing and validation.

A fundamental constraint in operating district energy networks is ensuring that energy demand is met throughout every season and that pressure remains sufficient even at the most distant points in the network. Fluidit Heat allows you to test production plans and control strategies for production units and pumping stations to meet these conditions efficiently.

Optimizing all these factors can be complex, but software offers a wide range of features to test production and control strategies effectively. Too complicated controls don’t exist – If the built-in controls don’t support your modeling project, custom controls, stations, and open API are here to help.

Advanced Scenario Management

A hierarchical scenario management system provides access to all scenarios and their results within a single model file. You can efficiently work with multiple scenarios and compare their results, geometry, and parameters easily.

With these comprehensive scenario management and comparison tools, you can systematically create and test an unlimited number of scenarios for your network, enabling you to make well-informed decisions about the most efficient and reliable way to operate it.

Advanced Scenario Management

With Fluidit Heat, you can create an unlimited number of scenarios within a single model file. Software offers an advanced hierarchical scenario management system: in the mother scenario, you can create a base for your network, and the child scenarios inherit its properties. In child scenarios, you can then freely test different network configurations and conditions without duplicating data – only the changes made in child scenarios are stored. This keeps the model file light and quick to work with.

In addition to an unlimited scenario tree, Fluidit Heat includes a scenario-comparison tool that lets you efficiently compare scenarios of your choice as a map, an organizable table, or individual properties. With this tool, you can also copy or delete any physical or non-physical components when comparing scenarios.

Detailed Substation Modeling

Accurate modeling of consumer substations is a key factor in creating a digital twin of a district energy network. Fluidit Heat offers an alternative approach to substation modelling compared to other software, enabling this goal.

In Fluidit Heat, each substation is modelled individually, with separate power demands and parameters for space heating and domestic hot water (DHW). Power demand can be specified as a constant value, or as a pattern that multiplies the base demand according to the time slot. For even greater accuracy in consumer behaviour, the base demand multiplier can be defined as a curve that depends on ambient and supply temperatures. Power consumption separately for space heating and DHW can also be set as individual time series.

Combined with the various other parameters available for consumers and the plug-flow model approach, Fluidit Heat allows substations in your digital network to closely replicate their actual behaviour.

Create Customizable Dashboards as Storyboards

Fluidit’s versatile dashboards let users combine maps, profile views, result windows, and graphs—all in one place. Easily visualize measured versus simulated results or compare scenario differences for clear, actionable insights.

Schematic dashboards are ideal for creating storyboards within your system, highlighting the most relevant elements, and presenting results to clients or audiences at different technical levels. A comprehensive report on flooded locations, network capacity, and CSOs can be generated and exported from the model as a PDF.
